A Glimmer of Justice, Singapore Moves Forward with Paulus Tannos’ Extradition

Jakarta – A long-awaited light of justice is finally starting to shine. After years of uncertainty, the legal process for Paulus Tannos, fugitive in the e-ID corruption case, is beginning to take shape.

Indonesia’s Minister of Law and Human Rights, Supratman Andi Agtas, expressed his hope that Singapore’s Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) will expedite the legal proceedings involving Tannos. This optimism comes following a critical decision made by the Singaporean court.

“On Monday, June 16, 2025, the court in Singapore rejected Tannos’ application for bail and ordered that he remain in custody,” Supratman said in Jakarta, Tuesday.

He added that this decision marks a significant step forward in Indonesia’s effort to extradite Tannos.

“The path to extraditing Paulus Tannos is becoming clearer. We’re hopeful that we can soon bring him back to face justice,” he added.

Key Hearing Approaching

The initial committal hearing in the Singapore district court is scheduled for June 23–25, 2025. This will be a decisive moment in determining whether Tannos will be extradited to Indonesia.

To Supratman, the court’s decision reflects more than legal procedure; it shows Singapore’s commitment to its extradition treaty with Indonesia.

“We deeply appreciate this progress. It’s an early but promising step in strengthening legal cooperation between our countries,” he said.

He also reminded the public to support the process respectfully.

“This is not something we can interfere with. But we must remain united and hopeful in our pursuit of justice.”

A Long Trail to Justice

Indonesia’s official extradition request was submitted on February 22, 2025, following an earlier provisional arrest request issued by Indonesian National Police back on December 18, 2018.

That effort finally yielded results when, on January 17, 2025, Tannos was arrested by Singapore’s Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB). He later filed for a bail request, which was denied by the Singaporean authorities.

On March 18, 2025, Singapore’s Minister for Law issued a formal notice to the Magistrate Court in response to Indonesia’s request—formally advancing the extradition process.

This case marks the first extradition request implemented under the Indonesia–Singapore extradition agreement. Its success could set a crucial precedent for cross-border legal collaboration.

Tannos has been on the KPK’s wanted list since October 19, 2021, due to his involvement in the massive e-ID procurement corruption scandal.***
