BATAMCLICK.COM: The Riau Islands Search and Rescue (SAR) Agency launched a search operation for a man reported to have jumped from Barelang Bridge 4 in Batam City early Sunday (23/2).
Head of SAR Tanjungpinang, Fazzli, stated that the man was identified as Alamsyah (20), a resident of Batam City.
“We received a report from the Galang Police Chief at 07.25 AM regarding this incident. A man from Batam was reported to have jumped from Barelang Bridge 4,” said Fazzli.
According to witness statements, the incident occurred around 01.40 AM. The victim was riding a Yamaha Mio motorcycle with plate number BP 5289 JJ, then stopped and sat on the edge of the bridge. Shortly after, he jumped into the water.
A witness who saw the incident immediately reported it to the Galang Police, who then forwarded the report to SAR Tanjungpinang. A six-member rescue team from SAR Batam was immediately deployed to the location using a rescue car, inflatable boat, and an outboard motor.
The search operation also involved a joint team from the Riau Islands Police Water Unit (Polairud Polda Kepri), Barelang Police Water Unit (Polairud Polresta Barelang), Galang Police Sector, Rempang Cate Community Police (Bhabinkamtibmas), BP Batam, and local residents.
“The search was conducted until 6:00 PM, but no results have been found yet,” said Fazzli.
For now, the SAR operation has been temporarily halted and will resume on Monday (24/2) at 07.15 AM after an evaluation and planning for the second day of the search.
