1 Indonesian Navy Personnel Killed, 2 Injured in a Brawl at a Tanjungpinang Nightclub

BATAMCLICK.COM – The Naval Military Police (Pomal) of the First Fleet Command (Koarmada I) in Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands, is investigating a brawl at a nightclub on Jalan Baru Dompak, Tanjungpinang, which involved several Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) personnel.

The Head of the Information Office of Koarmada I, Colonel (P) Yoni Nova Kusumawan, confirmed that the incident, which occurred early Sunday (23/2), resulted in the death of one Navy personnel and injuries to two others.

“This case is currently being handled by Pomal,” Yoni stated in Batam on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Sergeant JDL from Koarmada I’s Intelligence Unit. He suffered stab wounds from a sharp object and succumbed to his injuries while being transported to Tanjungpinang General Hospital. Two other victims, Sergeant SE and Sergeant R, also sustained injuries from sharp objects. Sergeant SE suffered a wound below his right armpit, while Sergeant R sustained an injury to his left hand.

Initial reports suggest that Sergeant JDL was involved in an altercation with an unidentified person. However, witness statements indicate that the incident also involved personnel from the Headquarters Company of Infantry Battalion 136/Tuah Sakti.

The Head of the Information Office of the Main Naval Base (Lantamal) IV, Major Rio Aditya, confirmed the incident but stated that official details regarding the chronology of events have yet to be received.

“The incident did occur, but we are still waiting for an official report on the exact sequence of events,” Rio explained.

Similarly, the Head of Public Relations of Military Resort Command (Korem) 033/Wira Pratama, Major (Inf) Rahmat Mulya, said that an official statement would be provided after coordination with the intelligence staff.

“Tomorrow morning, we will coordinate with the intelligence team to verify the facts and prevent misinformation,” Rahmat stated.

Meanwhile, police have sealed off the crime scene. A team from the Tanjungpinang Police Criminal Investigation Unit has conducted a forensic examination to gather evidence and investigate the incident further.
