PWI Batam Strengthens Synergy with Batam City Council, Promoting a Healthier Media Landscape

BATAMCLICK.COM: To enhance synergy, the Batam Preparatory Committee of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) held a meeting with the Chairman of the Batam City Council (DPRD), Muhammad Kamaluddin, on Wednesday afternoon (January 22, 2024).

The meeting, held in the Chairman’s office on the second floor of the Batam City Council Building in Batamcenter, unfolded in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Various important topics were discussed, including collaboration between PWI and the City Council to effectively disseminate information to the public.

“Journalists are the voice of the people. Their presence ensures that information is quickly delivered to the public and, conversely, that public aspirations reach us,” said Kamaluddin, a politician from the NasDem Party.

Kamaluddin also expressed hope for continued collaboration between PWI Kepri and Batam, particularly in knowledge-sharing efforts. He emphasized that PWI could serve as a strategic partner in clarifying issues related to news reporting.

“In the past, when there were issues with reporting, we often didn’t know whom to turn to. With PWI’s presence, I believe the council members will no longer hesitate to provide comments or clarifications,” he added.

Qori Ul Fitra, Chairman of the Batam Preparatory Committee of PWI, used the occasion to outline PWI’s work plans for 2025. Kamaluddin welcomed these plans and expressed his commitment to supporting the proposed programs.

Kamaluddin even highlighted that, in carrying out oversight functions, the role of journalists often surpasses that of council members.

Meanwhile, Andi, Chairman of PWI Kepri, who also attended the meeting, expressed gratitude to the Chairman of the Batam City Council for taking the time to meet.

“In the future, we hope that PWI Batam can maintain close communication with the City Council, enhance cooperation, and continue fulfilling its role as a government watchdog,” Andi said.
