KM Logistik Nusantara 4 Sea Toll Ship, A Solution for Meeting the Needs of Kepri’s Outermost Island Communities

BATAMCLICK.COM: The Head of the Riau Islands Province (Kepri) Transportation Department, Junaidi, revealed that the KM Logistik Nusantara 4 sea toll ship plays a crucial role in meeting the basic needs of communities in the region’s outermost islands, such as Natuna and Anambas.

Junaidi explained that the maiden voyage of KM Logistik Nusantara 4 in 2025 reached Kota Segara Port, Tanjung Uban, Bintan Regency, Kepri, on January 11, 2025. Although delayed by two days due to high waves, the ship has now docked in Natuna and is preparing to return to Tanjung Uban.

Route and Role of the Sea Toll Ship
The ship serves Route T-2, covering Tanjung Priok, Tanjung Uban, Letung Port, Tarempa, Selat Lampa, Subi Port, Serasan, Midai, and back to Tanjung Uban. Operating once a month, KM Logistik Nusantara 4, managed by PT Pelni, plays a vital role in addressing price disparities for basic needs in 3TP (underdeveloped, frontier, outermost, and border) regions.

For instance, Junaidi stated that the ship transported frozen chicken from Tanjung Priok to Tarempa, Anambas, using cold storage containers. The same container was then loaded with local fishermen’s catch to be sold in Jakarta.

“This sea toll ship not only provides the people in outermost islands with affordable basic needs but also helps fishermen market their catches to wider markets at better prices. This significantly improves their welfare,” said Junaidi.

Positive Economic Impact
Junaidi expressed his appreciation to the central government for initiating the operation of KM Logistik Nusantara 4. The ship is considered a key factor in strengthening connectivity and competitiveness between regions in Kepri, while also driving regional and national economic growth.

“The cargo this time mainly consisted of essential items such as rice, cooking oil, snacks, beverages, mineral water, cement, and frozen chicken,” Junaidi explained.

The arrival of KM Logistik Nusantara 4 offers new hope to the people of Kepri’s outermost islands, bringing significant benefits for regional economic sustainability and improving the quality of life for its communities.
