Saudi Airlines flight SV5276 from Jeddah to Jakarta was forced to make an emergency landing at Kualanamu International Airport, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, after receiving a bomb threat email. The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) quickly responded by coordinating with relevant authorities, such as the police and airport security, to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
A total of 442 passengers and 18 crew members were successfully evacuated to a temporary isolation area at the airport’s G1 building. Currently, a thorough sterilization process is being carried out on passengers, luggage, and the aircraft to ensure there are no remaining security threats.
The TNI demonstrated its readiness in handling this emergency situation. The TNI Air Force’s Kopasgat unit deployed a platoon-sized team to support airport security, while the TNI Army prepared a Jihandak team and another platoon-sized team as backup to support sterilization and perimeter security efforts. Intensive coordination between the TNI, police, airport authorities, and intelligence and security agencies was conducted to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
