BATAMCLICK.COM:The Patrol Team and Criminal Investigation Unit of Bengkong Police Station dispersed dozens of teenagers suspected of planning a sarong war, or group fight using sarongs as weapons.
The Bengkong Police Chief, Inspector Doddy Basyir, through his Criminal Investigation Unit Chief, Inspector Marihot Pakpahan, stated that the incident occurred precisely in front of Cheng Ho Mosque, in the Golden City area, Bengkong, Batam City, Riau Islands (Kepri) on Thursday, March 14, 2024, around 9:40 PM, after Taraweeh prayers.
“There were about 30 teenagers and some children. Meanwhile, they were also carrying sarongs with their ends tied,” said Marihot.
Marihot continued, stating that the police immediately went to the location upon receiving the report. The brawlers scattered in all directions.
Marihot mentioned that the majority of them were still underage. They were asked to disperse and return home immediately.
“So, the officers gave instructions for them to go home to prevent sarong wars, nothing more, they weren’t arrested,” he said.
Marihot reminded the community in accordance with the instructions of the Chief of Police of Kepri, Police Inspector General Drs Yan Fitri Halimansyah, and the Chief of Barelang Regional Police, Police Commissioner Nugroho Tri Nuryanto, not to engage in Sahur On The Road activities, especially using firecrackers to wake people up for suhoor.
The police will increase patrols to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
