PWI KEPRI in Action: Planting 50 Thousand Mangrove Seedlings Ahead of HPN

BATAMCLICK.COM: Welcoming HPN 2024, the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) of the Riau Islands Province (Kepri) has readied 50 thousand seedlings of mangrove plants to be planted in commemoration of National Press Day (HPN) on February 9, 2024.

Chairman of the HPN Committee PWI Kepri, Henky Mohari, mentioned that they’ve prepared 50 thousand mangrove seedlings for planting across a 5-hectare area. Henky also added that the planting will take place at Sungai Tiram, Penaga Village, Teluk Bintan District, Bintan Regency on Monday, February 5.

Apart from the PWI Kepri officials and members, the community from Mangrove Lovers Indonesia – Japan, YL Forest Co. Ltd, and Ricoh Group will also join in the planting scheduled for Tuesday, February 6, 2024.

Ady Indra Pawennari, Coordinator of Mangrove Lovers Indonesia, shared that the mangrove planting initiative with PWI Kepri and representatives from Japan has been ongoing for the past 14 years. He mentioned that a total of 40 hectares of mangrove land has already been successfully planted.

Ady also explained that mangrove planting aims to reduce air pollution and maintain environmental balance. He stated that mangroves absorb Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and produce Oxygen (O2), which helps reduce air pollution.

The mangrove planting site inspection was also attended by Tourism Journalists PWI Kepri, Dwi Kemalawaty, Head of Household Affairs (Karumga) of PWI Kepri Secretariat, Novendra, and PWI Kepri Advisory Council, Abdul Hamid.
