Indonesia enters new chapter as global player in EV ecosystem: Jokowi

BATAMCLICK.COM : Indonesia has entered a new chapter as a global player in the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem through the inauguration of the battery and electric vehicle ecosystem in the country, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated.

“Today, we have started a new chapter in our milestone to become a global player in the EV and battery cell ecosystem,” he remarked at the inauguration of the South Korean battery and electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia at PT Hyundai LG Indonesia (HLI) Green Power, Karawang, West Java, on Wednesday.

According to Jokowi, Indonesia has abundant natural resources that were only exported as raw materials with no added value.

The president remarked that with the construction of a smelter and electric vehicle battery cell factory, Indonesia will become an important international player in the global supply chain for electric vehicles.

“We should become a global player in the electric vehicle supply chain. This one has already started, and this is the first and largest EV battery cell factory in Southeast Asia,” Jokowi emphasized.

Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Panjaitan, Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, SOEs Minister Erick Thohir, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang, and West Java Acting Governor Bey Machmudin were also present to accompany the president.

Meanwhile, Minister Panjaitan stated that the inauguration of the battery and electric vehicle ecosystem marked an important milestone in Indonesia’s progress.

“Indonesia is ready to become a key player in the global supply chain from upstream to downstream,” he stated.

On the same occasion, South Korean Trade Minister Cheong In-kyo, in his speech, expressed hope for the two countries to continue expanding the cooperation.

He noted that currently, more than two thousand South Korean companies have entered Indonesia. He thanked the Indonesian government for offering tax incentives and simplifying customs procedures.
